Unfortunately the picture had to be taken very quickly, as Afghans can be sensitive about photographing their women, and the picture was slightly out of focus. I liked it very much though.
The schooling in Afghanistan is improving, and girls now have an opportunity to attend - which they didn't before. But this photograph was taken in a rural area, in the Hindu Kush, without access to schools. These girls were working in the fields.
