About YES, I KNOW IT'S LOADED WITH NOISE!!!!!

I still love the shot and it was a valuable lesson learned, check ALL settings before taking the shot. Had I done this I wouldn't have so many casualties with a four figure ISO.

This was a shot taken at a wonderful area called Barley Cove just a short distance from Mizen Head in the previous posting. The sands in the cove were beautiful and there was no commercial or retail activity to spoil the mood. The meadow with these wildflowers joined onto the dunes which in turn joined the beach and the sea....A truly beautiful and peaceful area.

I'll reply to this old posting while fresh in my memory Stan. If you read the 'about' it was all about not checking my settings. I had shot some night time stuff and I totally forgot to come out of 1600 ISO. My camera is almost always on 100/200 and maybe some 400 as a maximum but just now and again I shoot much higher. The trick is to remember tore-set the camera . At my age now Stan it's not so much practice as memory, memory Cheers for your thoughtful comment and on the other two old shots my friend. 'See' you soon, best wishes......Ray

Beautiful landscape capture,dear Ray.
But to reduce noise, you can use a "Neat Image" software is free on internet. Also, set up lover resolution 100/200 ISO max.Try sometime use aperture or shutter priority, compare the resoults. You have an excellent camera and lenses.
Practice & practice as much as posible.
Wish you good luck my friend.
Stan.

What a loveley scene dear Ray.. Too bad It's noisy but it's still a fantastic shot.. these things happen all the time to me too .. I always forget to change the ISO.. metering mode, white balance ...
The composition of this shot is real great. The flowers in the front add a whole lot to the shot..

My best,
aLi

I do love this image Ray ~ noise and all! It looks so peaceful and to not have any commercial activity is a true find.. I was going to suggest trying 'neat image' ~ as Narabia suggested.. it can be a good filter for smoothing out excess noise but need to be careful you don't lose the detail from those lovely daisies and buttercups! Thanks for the reminder to change the ISO settings :) best wishes, susie

I know what you mean by checking the camea settings. I have actully gone out special to take pictures at a certian area and spent hours taking them and then when you get home and relize the delima it is very heart wrenching. I am very sorry that this did happen to you as it is such a dissapointment. The good thing about it is that it is another reason to visit such a beautiful spot once again. A facinating scene.
Kelly

All that said, this is still a great picture. The DOF is great and the colors are enchanting, from the beautiful warm greens and yellows to the lazy blue sky.

Wow! lovely landscape captured. I like this super wide angle shot, what a beautiful mood created. The low perspective shows the wiew from just above the ground, maybe how a cat sees the world. Oh, lovely patterns of the clouds on blue sky in the background adding a different color to this wonderful composition. I like the diffrent layers seen, the sky, the green fields, and the field of flowers, very balance comnposition...
very nice Ray..
regards..
Will catch up soon on my comments..

Nah, you're right, Ray! It WAS 'Whoops a daisy!' Put my false memory down to premature senility on my part!

I still have this feeling there was some saying with 'buttercups' in it, though I don't trust the mind to distinguish between memory and fantasy any more!

Cheers, mate -

Len

I think it is good to show not only perfect photos. We learn in that way.

Hi Dave....sorry to be late getting back to you but I had a busy weekend my friend. You are the second person to mention neatimage and earlier today I downloaded it. I will investigate it at a later date as I use PS CS2 (badly) and have a very fine raw programme from Canon. After posting this image I found a little time to play with my programmes and found a way to improve what I had downloaded......too late the horse has already bolted:):) I sometimes think I should take timeout and bone up on these programmes Dave but I am of the personal opinion that I should get it right in the camera to begin with as overplay in CS2 etc can sometimes go wrong as often as it goes right. Thank-you Dave.....I will certainly see how things fare with neatimage.....Best wishes..

Hi there Robert.....first of all I changed bodies to get the larger screen, spot metering and the speed wheel, the last two items I had been accustomed to with my old 1N body. My poor old eyes needed a larger screen 'coz the 350d screen is so very small. You have a great camera body and really your better quality pics will come via the L series lenses. The 30D will NOT give me better pics but it will give me a greater opportunity to improve my photography, providing I remember to reset temporary changes to the set up:):):) Best wishes to you my friend, hope this helps..

I am more familiar with 'whoops a daisy' Len so I think it was probably regional differences. Trouble is, I can't remember whether I heard the expression in Scotland in my early years or down in Surrey for the balance of my childhood:):):) Cheers Len..

Thank-you Monika....you have indeed brightened it up. I do have the very good Canon software for dealing with raw images and also PS CS2. There are limits to the alterations I will do to an image postwork as it is my belief that you should get things right in the camera to begin with. I was happy with what I posted as it suited my eyes at the time. Regretably the damage was done in the camera and I took the decision not to bend the shot too much. Thank-you for the attention you gave my composition. I have enjoyed another wonderful visit to your own work Monika...well done for some wonderful posts. Very best wishes...Ray

digital noice is one problem but exposure is also not the best
unfortunaltelly sometimes 9especially on sunny days) it is ot possible to see on display LCD the result. Then the isea is to take in RAW files or to use programmes to improve the image. I tried to clean it a bit with neatimage (freeware at www.neatimage.com). Of course it lost details but thanks to slight sharpening and changing contast/levels it gained more "fresh look" :)

I might have been tempted crop the top of this and not have the sense of distance, but it's six of one and half a dozen of the other over decisions like that... Incidentally, Ray, my gran used to say, 'Ooops-a-buttercups!' when a little kid fell over. Have you heard the same expression or is it a regional thing?

Looks fine to me. So how do you like this 30d? I thought about it or a better L lens but then again I wonder how will it make my pictures better for what I do? I know I like to have that 5d but don't have the money or my wife would would lock me out.I hate it when I have my camera set for landscape and well I run into wildlife and forget it?

Hey Larry....if I knew what I was doing with all this digital stuff and CS2 and uncle Tom Cobley and all....I'd have a crack at it. I know what I can do in Photoshop and I have perfected quite a few techniques but when I start doing radical alterations to a shot it never looks right to me so I keep it simple my friend. The posting above was the wrong one...I had one that was a little brighter....hey ho. All the best Larry and thanks for your continuous support and visits.

Well...my favorite trick is the wrong white balance although I can usually spot that mistake in the monitor...still an excellent presentation...I'd tinker with PS apply a little more noise or turn it into an impressionist painting
