Good Lord Chris! This is stunning. Perfect conveyance of tone and texture, fascinating look at a semi-transluscent creature and interest points on the shell. I think the DOF is good too . . . like the idea of front-end focus trailing off as the eye wanders back into the composition. Congrats on the well-deserved award!

Just saw this one! What an absolutely creative way of capturing the image of an otherwise boring subject! Just goes to show there is no such thing to a good photographer.
The lighting and angle you've taken the shot is just perfect.

First things first Chris....well done on the DoD, richly deserved by a very devoted photographer.
You have composed your shot with much thought and captured your subject with perfect dof and pof. The details are excellent and even the texture of the twig just in front of the snail is superb. Well done to you my friend.

I never looked at this picture before and thought about the DoF and creating the illusion of speed as this creatures moves so slow :)
Not sure if you have seen any of the other snail pictures in my portfolio but I love taking pictures of them. I think I have just about every combination you can get. In this picture I was just going for the front uh...face? to be in focus and gradually fading out behind him. You have got me thinking about different apertures for next time I go out which will hopefully be tomorrow morning with the weather permitting. Snails make great subjects, interesting shells and slow moving.

Hi Chris, outstanding photo, very well focussed, and the tones are spot on too. Very strong and proficient capture.
I like the effect of the DOF, creating an illusion of speed, and thus a good inflicted controversy. I only wonder if using an f/8 aperture would've been more appropriate, also making sure the "far end" of the snails' shell is in focus. Whereas the DoF in the previous one (i commented on seemed rather wide for f/5.6, it seems to be more shallow here, but I guess that's also because you used a larger macro ratio. Either way, a very good photo.
