I was much higher than a chopper...I was on an American Airlines Super-80 making its descent into Las Vegas, but we were probably about 12,000 feet up.

Nice shot under difficult circumstances and good PS work. It looks really natural. I flew over here about a year ago, in daylight, and was surprised that I seemed to be the only passenger taking any notice of the view. I didn't bother talking a shot because I didn't think it would come out too good. We live and learn. Regards, Gary

Oh, yes. I had not connected the dots with a gradient + adjustment layer. I'm off to fiddle, Rina.
I really appreciate the assistance!

Hi Paul,
Beautiful aerial shot of the canyon. Marvellous job bringing out the colour of the water, it looks stunning. Well done.
Just read through the critiques so far and noticed your last comment. I have a suggestion that I hope may help...
I'm going to assume you have photoshop :) Firstly, create a new adjustment layer > select curves and give it a gentle S curve.
Then mask that adjustment layer using the gradient tool - foreground to transparent - and drag the pointer from dead center down to bottom right edge, effectively getting rid of that area gradually.
If the shadows and highlights don't quite match or are stronger than that of the bottom right in the original layer, simply reduce the adjustment layer's opacity until it looks even or play with different layer blends.
Hope that makes sense to you. I've attached a rough example of possible end result...
Cheers Rina.

Yeah, if you have any ideas how to remove some of that blue haze in the background, I'm all ears!

paul, nicely done man. even with the work you've done i still would wish to see the image with a bit less "haze" in it. a tall order indeed.... cheers, erik

Hi Paul Just wanted you to know that the Grand Canyon is in Arizona, not Nevada. They already have Las Vegas Edith

Well, the reference to '5x7' is irrelevant for web posting. Here, it is only total pixels that count. I stay within Usefilm guidelines, making sure not to exceed 850 pixels on the images longest side. You may also need to adjust your JPEG compression, to ensure your re-scaled image is smaller than 400k.
Further, Usefilm now allows posting of panoramas, at which point the smallest side must stay within 850 pixels, but the larger side can now go up to 1200 pixels.
I hope this helps, and thanks for the comments, Bill.

Wow great dramatic shot, well done an through a window too!! much better than the original, would be interesting if you played some more with this in shadows & highlights, it may get rid of the washed out colour in top left corner? Regards :O)

Very nice Paul, I was going to say you were only an hour or two from Bryce but then I read you shot this from a plane. Makes the shot even more remarkable. Can I ask how you're able to post such a large photo? If I try to post anything over a 5X7 it tells me it's too large. Again very nice fly by shot!!!! Bill

Oh, and just so you can see what a difference it can make to create and adjust multiple layers...here is what the orignal shot looks like (underwhelming for sure).

Well, Sal, if you're seated on the starboard side of the jet, you could have a chance at this very image.
This was shot around 10:30am on a long final to McCarran runway 25R.

Love how the focal point contrasts colour-wise so much with the rest of the picture. Interesting perspective as well!
