i think that you are right about the darkness, and I also agree with the tighter crop, but i think you lose the 'line' taking our eye through the picture on too tight a crop. i'm going to have another go at this one..

A great idea, Robert, the little person and the massive concrete building, and the basic photo is really nice. The tones of the building are great, and you've got a nice mass around the man to work with.
I do agree with Alex somewhat about the darkness. I also tend to think that there are almost two photos, left and right. It seems to me that the weight on the right doesn't really add much to the weight on the left. I thought about ways to overcome this (what I see as a problem) and could only come up with the solution I attached that puts all the weight above the man. I dodged the man and his apartment a bit to make him stand out a bit more. I also think that the photo would work if the part of the building that I presume is on the left were included. Then the man would not only have weight on him from above, but be sandwiched as well.
I also suppose the "weight" problem could be overcome entirely by changing the name to 'Isolated' or 'Marginalized'.
Just my two cents.

A subject, that the mental cold of many architects reflects. Regards Gerhard

I like the composition and abstraction of this picture. Unfortunately, I find it too dark at the base with little contrast. I understand that a certain sense of mood and proportions is being created. Because of the lack of lighting at the bottom, the person is lost, and instead of being a point of interest, comes off more as a distraction. I think some more lighting would help. I hope this helps.
