About This is a "flood lock", a couple of gates that protect the canal when the water's getting very high in the river to the outside of the lock. Basically, the place would get flooded, so these gates seal the canal and force the water over the wier.

its not dissent Danny, it's just a point of view.

Someone had built houses in the way of the shot - it they'd been taken out, then it'd be better.

were you saying that it's too dark and gloomy - i.e. had I crossed the line?

just posted 4 slightly lighter ones with you in mind - see, i do listen to a a man of you experience and caibre! :-)

Tremendous up to thelock gates but I think we are losing it from there onwards.Ade you are giving yourself a difficult task as these images ned to be dark and broody butwhere do we draw that fine line. Superb water moorings and walkway.
I have now read the remainder of the comments ADE. Sorry to be the only dissenter.

Very nice. Like the white mooring which adds a good contrast. John

cold and very wet....

I do have a bin liner in my bag, but nevfer really used it in ernest yet!

mono's a cool :-)

top tip if you ever do one.

use the Levels control right at the end - there's 3 eye droppers on there, black, mid tone and white. use the white one - click it on the brightest part of the shot, that makes that "white" proper.

do the same for black - that makes that black proper. then play with the middle slider to make it high or low key - or normal of course.

you get teh full tonal range that way - and nice contrast of course

What? Just a knee shot? I was hoping for at least a belly shot Ade. ;)

Great composition and very nice tones. Love the smooth water. Usually I always prefer colour images but this works nicely in B&W.

Nice to see you around again.

Cheers - Ann :)
