Charming. It brings to mind my tendency to single out features in a face that call my attention to the point of forgetting everything else. You've effectively used color to accentuate luxuriant facial elements that remain indelible first impressions. And the blue eyes together with the pinkish-red variations go well together. Extraordinary talent Susie .... and a pleasure to look at with satisfying delight.

Hi Susie, I'm glad you are not the type of person that goes flying off the handle at the slightest criticizm :) This kind of thing is so subjective. You have to remember that I am quite often wrong :) My wife tells me that all the time :) The bottom line is... if Mom goes nuts over it, that's it! End of Story! Andre

A splendid expression in a good portrait and the desaturation makes to stand out the eyes in a wonderful way.

Hi Sheila, The technique I used on this one is as follows: ~first a made a background copy ~Then I did all the levels and brightening, etc. on the color copy. ~Then I selected just the eyes then inversed the selection (so everything BUT the eyes was selected) ~I made a new layer from this selection. ~With the hue and saturation I took the saturation down to about 25%. ~Then I merged all the top layers together. ~At this point her eyes were so bright and blue that they almost looked spooky. ~So I selected just her eyes and desaturated them to about 50%. ~When I liked it I merged those layers together too. ~You can save it in a couple of versions so you don't damage the original (bottom layer). I really liked this result. I think this is a fun technique to play around with. Let me know if you have any other questions about it. Susie

Hi Andre, First off, I hope you always feel free to give me your honest opinion. I love that. I'd rather have one honest opinion than 30 atta girls. I appreciate your thoughts on the eyes. You should have seen them before I desaturated them a bit! ) I desaturated the whole photo except the eyes about 75%. Her eyes are so incredibly blue they didn't look real. So I went back and desaturated her eyes to about 50% and was pleased with that result. I knew it was on the edge, but I liked it, and her mom went nuts over it,so I went with it. Anyway, I value your input Simon...er...Andre...so keep em coming! Thanks! Susie

I love her blue eyes on this Susie! Did you do anything with the eyes after you desaturated the photo or did they just stay bright? I love it! I reminds me of the old hand painted black and white photos. Great job!

Hi Susie, I'm going to have to give my honest oppinion on this one. I've read all the comments so far and I know I,m really going out on a limb here. Everyone has mentioned the beautiful blue eyes being outstanding! But, to me that is the problem. They seem too outstanding! The subtle colour in the shirt and lips is fine, I would have toned the eyes down to a very subtle blue shade. Sometimes less is more. I feel a bit like Simon on American Idol with this comment, but I just had to say it. Andre

Hi Susie, we know she's cute, but now we know she's also a good listener! Great portrait, and lovely blue eyes! I like the way you've desaturated the colors, it looks very natural, the rosy cheeks, dress and pink lips still have a nice deal of warm color, just to make it very balanced. I don't think just the blue eyes would have worked with everything else being grey. Great choice and beautiful work! Best regards, Ina

Oh yes this is one attentive little girl. I love how you left those beautiful eyes blue when the rest almost all looks desaturated...but wait....(there's more)...I do see colour in her clothes and a slight hint of warmth in her lips too so it's an interesting technique you've used with the colour choices here. Some colour and some appearing monotone. A lovely idea that works beautiuflly in this image. Very nice lighting here too. A beautiful portrait Susie.
Cheers - Ann :)
