  Q. Flash
Patrick Ziegler
Asked by Patrick Ziegler    (K=21797) on 11/3/2004
I have a Canon EOS Rebel GII. I am pretty sure I will be purchasing the Canon Speedlight 550EX. I want to use the flash and a couple slaves to light a spread of goose decoys and the area above the field of decoys. I want to capture both dark colored and light (white) geese as the land in the decoys. I am curious about what slaves to use. From what I have read so far the Canon Speedlight 420EX would work best with Canon?s E-TTL flash exposure system. Can I use less expensive flash units with flash detecting hot shoe slaves? These would be much less expensive. My understanding of E-TTL is that the light returning through the lens is what the camera uses to evaluate the exposure. Shooting geese I would be using a 75-300mm zoom and possible with a 2X Teleconverter.
