About No PS work
Exposure compensation: -1

Took this in a beautiful part of Virginia. I reduced the natural light through the camera to make the scene darker than it actually appeared. The barren tree really captured my attention so I had to stop and take some photos :)

With so many beautiful and unusual pictures to choose from it must have been hard, but I think this one is definitely the winning choice! Being the panorama lover I am, I might have shaved a little off the bottom to reduce the weight of all that solid shadow down there, but the atmospherics are superb...

I love this photo Paul! Yes, very moody, and well composed (and seen). This is "my kind of photo" and you've titled it well-- going in my favorites. This photo is so powerful it should be viewed at a distace as it's over powering close up. 7s from me, this photo should be rated higher than it is IMO. Cheers. Craig

Wonderful shot, the tree is lovely, I love how its one "arm" mimicks the slope of the hill. The one branch on the left seems to just go on forever. A very interesting tree to shoot. Love the overall darkness~

Dynamic and dramatic image..my kind of image particularly in mood....i like the touch of color as i think the color of the rays gives this image some added appeal...love how you can see the soft hues of the outline of the mountains which look like undulating waves..my first night back so will be choosing various dated posts which i have missed to comment on..regards,gayle

Roger Williams Roger Williams   {K:86139} 8/7/2004
I don't think the thumbnail does this justice. Those subtle colours in the sky are just enough to highlight the somber overall mood. I wonder if the dark mass at lower left is a little too heavy? I might have trimmed a little off the bottom to lighten that up a bit... but then these days I always tend to think in panorama format. I'm putting this in my favourites so I can revisit it often...

Dear Paul,

that's really a scary landscape composing. reminds me of some tentacles fooling around. very creepy. the dark sky and the light beams of sun add to the mood. a nice extra element are the hinted mountains. gives the image some depth.

Personally, this is a bit too dark for me, especially the dark plane on the left. not sure how to alter that. waiting for your next batch of pictures from this scene =)

Take care,

Thilo

Beautiful, moody image. As you know, I live in Lynchburg, and roam all over the place in Central Virginia. I usually go on the Parkway at Bedford. I've gone all the way through to Charlottesville before, but not as far going south on it. I plan on it soon though.

Thanks Saeed, actually I tried it b&w and for some reason thought it looked better in color, well.. the little bit of color that it has. I think it is because the tiny bit of color lightens up the image a bit.. but as b&w it seems to be too dark. thanks again
