About Yes, I know it has a bad light. I took this photo on the beach at noon. I didn't want to lose that opportunity to show you another pretty girl (12 years old) from the fishermen's village!
Somebody knows how can I fix that problem?
Dedicated to Massimo Di Maggio for your all good suggestions and his patience with me!

Thanks for comments!

Eu acho que está muito bonita. A fraca luminosidade dá um toque especial á cara da menina. Ficou linda. Abraço Anna. CP :)

Anna, You're very welcome. Please let me know if it works for you. PS, I would try putting a bit of light reflection (Catch Light) in each of her eyes. Just select the right size brush, use the Clone Tool to pick up a light color from her skin and stamp it on her eyes. Be careful, avoid making her cross or wall eyed. Good Luck, Robert

I like this, she is so pretty that the harsh light becomes less important. You asked how it could be improved. If you wanted to you could probably improve it in Photoshop. Try selecting a small area where her skin is illuminated but not over exposed, feather the selection ( a lot, say 20 pixels). Then copy it and adjust the resulting layer's opacity, try 10% and paste it back onto the face. Use the move tool to place the new layer to where you want it. Repeat as often as neccessary, even pasting on the same place more than once, to eliminate the over exposed areas.
Thanks for your comment on my Another Shell Bridge image, I appreciate your input.
Robert

Very nice portrait! I agree with Don Loseke about using a flash. Also, the new version of Photoshop has a shadow/highlight adjustment feature that might be useful.

if you want to balance out the exposure on her face without losing the quality of light here, it is easy to do in PS. sometimes just a touch of a tool will help. if it were me, i would take the levels and darken the midtones. click okay when you have the lightest part at a level you like. in the history, click back to the previous stage, and choose your history brush (put it left of the levels you just adjusted). set your history brush opacity at about 10%, flow at 100%, and you can soflty tap at the highlights on the nose. i find that the history brush preserves luminosity better than dodging, and burning, because you can't go overboard as much. you can do the opposite to lighten other parts that you feel are too dark. sorry if this doesnt make sense, it is difficult to explain computer commands!

Very nice portrait. Except the good big smile, the foggy frame you put gives strongly the target at her face and smile.

Looks great to me she is pretty. You can use the healing brush or paint brush to get out the lighter part. I would probably use a polarizer or and 81a filter. You can go into the negative in exposer to help with that also.

eu acho que resolveste muito bem a questão da luz Ana,
ficou lindo o retrato...e acho que nem sempre precisamos da luz perfeita para termos uma belíssima foto....muitas vezes o olhar e emoção são mais importantes que a luz...para mim...claro!
grande beijinho!!!

Paolo Barthelemy   {K:25552} 1/30/2004
I agree with the general thoughts about this portrait; the girl is lovely and her expression is amazing. Lighting is sharp but it makes the look focus on her gentle face and I think that any PS adjustment would just spoil the naturality of this portrait.
Leave it as it is, it's a beautiful shot!
Best regards, Paolo

Achei a luz boa. Talvez você tenha alterado algo depois para dar o efeito escuro nos cantos, certo? Gostei!

Realmente a menina é uma graça e bem expressiva.

Parabéns!

Oh Ana, you are so kind and gentle, you know that I love this girl, yes, the lighting is not the best (sorry I could not help you more), but she?s so pretty and lovely that technical matters are not so important this time. I'm sure you'll get some good suggestions here :) Bye Max

You have done real well in controlling the harsh lighting. Next time turn on the fill flash and try that to fill the shadows. A great expression and you have darkened the background very well. Don.

Hey Ana, I don't know much about technicalities, I only know when my eyes are happy, and here my eyes are very happy. I find the light really pleasing and don't know what you mean. This is a gorgeous capture, compliments :)
