About How could this kid not stand out on the platform of waterloo station? I wanted to do the project alone, and he looks like a bit of an outcast, but I think lost would be more appropriate!

Jake, this is the point, he's a Goth, a culture who are not known for their vitality and gregarious use of colour when it comes to the wardrobe. If you look at his face he is correctly exposed, if you look at the floor it is, in my opinion a touch over, and the people in the background who are in direct sun are almost whited out. The tonality of the background is generally very pale whilst he remains a bold dark feature centre frame, this reinforces his being 'Alone' and stands as a metaphor for him being distant from mainstream culture, represented by the people around him.

Everything is just an opinion on this forum, and I'm not shy about making my voice heard. I also try to respond to longer posts or those that raise questions, and always take criticism in the spirit it is meant, actively encouraging any responses my shots elicit. To be hounest I would prefer a lengthy critique on what's wrong with an image than the usual 'nice pic'. However what you have offered here is a short criticism that is quite obviously not based on anything relevant to the image.....either turn the contrast up on your monitor or take the trouble to follow Kelly and Richards examples and offer decent comment and advice.

to dark, loss of vitality to the good subject.

I think side-on works because you can concentrate on his overall appearance without being distracted by his gaze. His oblique (lost) look gives a sense of him being concerned by something in his surroundings, highlighting the feeling of being alone. Unless his expression was just right, a direct look might have been more confrontational than lonely. Thought it was Waterloo.

PS. It's just you...

Yeah, the shot is level and I tried fiddling with the perspective whilst cropping in PS. I would have prefered a face on shot but I'm trying to do the dogma thing and not mess with shots too heavily, other than a little bit of curves and levels. Thanks for taking the time to do this though, and thanks very much for the rating!

PS is it just me or is that girl on camera left of the subject really cute?!!

I like the composition. I played with the horizon a bit - not sure if it did much other than the tickets sign being straight. Nice job!
