Thanks for your comments, Marcus. I've been past here many times, but hadn't gone in before. I like cemetaries, the peacefulness and stillness of them. It is a nice place for you to go visit with your grandparents...it is one of the most beautiful, and beautifully maintained cemetaries I've ever been to.

No landscapes? Awwww! I was surprised at the different birds at POFA... did you get any of the night herons? There were so many on the one tree, but all somewhat obstructed by the branches, I wasn't able to get a good capture of one....

I need to check out HMB again sometime soon....

Take care, and thanks for your comments.

Thanks, Marcus-- I'm going to check out that area next time I'm there. I want to go back and get some shots of the hoodies... my next challenge!

Hi Marcus-- yes, I like getting lost, usually-- but with the right shoes and a bottle of water would have been nice! ;) Funny how some of these are so confident and bold, and others, like the one at Contra Loma, take flight at the drop of a hat. This guy almost seemed to like having his photo taken-- it was almost like cheating (he really is alive, honestly!).

Thanks for the comments :)

Thanks for your comments, Nessa! I thought I'd better post some dogs, some of my shelter friends thought I'd given up on them!

Heya Chris.....do I have to say how much I love this? I think not...you know me too well for me to bother...LOL.
Great comp. and the yellow is so striking on this pole, and I like the contrast, brings the texture out nicely.
I am envious of this one, very cool.
cheers, Bek

another great capture of the heron, I have to agree with Bill, some of my best shots have come when i was not where i started out going but ended up, which of course was lost. These guys are very unpredictable, I have seen them on the sides of airport runways, open fields without any water in sight, a few on rooftops, the side of the freeway etc.. I have often wondered what makes them leave the typical wetlands and seek out mice in dry areas, I bet Yamil would know LOL...

I think what you did works well, the open beak with the flat wing spread is very appealing, dont you just love how they yell at you as there flying away :) If you have not yet made your way to the back water way to the left of the lake ther is always a couple of great with egrets and this guy typically sits back there when not out eating, there is also a kingfisher and many migrants that you can shoot closeup, you only have to go to the parking lot at the end of the road to the left and follow the path past the open field all the way to the end of the waterway, keep up the great work..

very nice classic pose of the GBH, I really like the lighting and natural surroundings, I was at the POFAs the other day with Jinggoy shooting a few landscapes, which i do many though you wont find them on UF LOL.. I suffer from compsition block. for me I will stick to HMB for pelicans early morning with the sun at your back is excellent as they fly by so close sometimes you cant fit them in the frame...

wow you are a quick learner! Moody day shots are amoung the hardest as these digital camera sensors love light, you seem to have has no problem locking on and getting an excellent capture. very nice exposure and detail, the full wingspread is excellent, Crissy fields is not the easiest place to shoot pelicans either as they seldom come close. I was trying to get a flock going over the golden gate awile back but no such luck ..

wow amazing scene Christine, the moody look is perfect here, love the mixture of headstones as oppose to them all being the same, both my grand parents on my fathers side are buried here so i have visited often, and taken many photos, I think you captured the feel of the place perfectly..

URGH! Thanks, Bill-- so few sunny days here now, I'm trying to get out when I can... and boy, did I ever get lost! Oh well, I had knee surgery a couple of months ago, so I've been lazy, I can use the exercise. But water for sure, in the future :)

I'm looking forward to seeing some bird shots in snow...(not that I want to get close to the stuff, I grew up in it and hate it!), so I'm looking forward to some of your new work. I hope you're missing all of the bad weather they are getting out there, my dad is in Wisconsin and they got almost a foot of snow...

Take care and thanks for dropping in, Bill!

Some times getting lost is the only way to go.
Your images with that 80-400 are turning out great Christine. The Egerts and GBH's are all gone here in Michigan so I look foreward to more of your shots. Keep up the good work and pack a couple of sandwhich's and bottled water for your next trip.......Just in case!!!
