excellent use of that wide-angle perspective

great portrait and use of a frame within your frame

interesting composition, especially in how you've balanced light and dark here - great work

a wonderful shot - well composed, exposed, and executed - the detail throughout is very impressive; what lens were you using?

great shot - it feels almost voyeuristic, yet still very intimate

great perspective - it really provides the cross a domineering presence

a good photograph - the atmospheric haze gives it a feeling of mystery - the only suggestion I can offer, if you ever consider reshooting, would to shift left or right enough to either eliminate the shrub in the foreground, or have enough of it that it's shape doesn't ride the left edge as much as it does now - of all the great details in this photograph, that shrub is the least interesting - excellent work nonetheless

excellent composition and execution; it's certainly a strong contender for the "Moody Landscape" project

a fascinating photograph that, because of what we don't see, feels very mysterious and compelling

good capture - it seems your early start really paid off

an interesting concept of disparate subjects - I don't know if this was intentional, but to see these two side by side it almost comes across as a comparison of transitory states - the smoke will dissipate, the flower will wilt, leaving the only proof of their once intimate photographic coupling here in the photo itself - great work

Critique By: Blake Heiss  (K:2197)
3/11/2009 4:37:06 AM

great portrait - it's compelling insomuch as the vibrancy of the face paint doesn't seem to mirror that of the boys countenance

3/10/2009 9:46:51 PM

interesting use of complementary colors in this shot - the breakdown of compositional elements to simple geometric shapes, like the circle of the glass or squareness of the ice cubes, also help this photo as a whole - nice work

another great shot, rich with visual detail - perhaps a little tweaking with brightness/contrast would augment this scene with a little more depth - habiti a firenze?

wonderful photo - I really enjoy the vibrancy of the lights of "civilization" on the horizon - my only suggestion, if you ever consider revisiting this shot, would be to leave just a little more of that white fence intact near the bottom left of the frame - as it is now those two angled boards feel like leading lines that pull the eye to that corner when there are so many amazing things to see above

great shot - the perspective you chose here really provides an extra dose of energy to the action in the photo

interesting shot - the canting of the camera really works, giving that austere gate a rather formidable presence - my only suggestion, if you consider reshooting, would be to leave just a little more sky space in the upper left corner where the spire cap gets cut off and the top of the chimney is precariously close to riding the top edge of the frame - good work

3/10/2009 5:01:13 AM

nice shot - I can't tell if the chimney is leaning or you'd canted the camera, but either way I think the perspective here provides a somewhat static shot with a dynamism that really draws the viewer in to examine the intricacies of this very unique chimney

great landscape work here - the toning gives it a feel similar to work done in the 1930's by FSA photographers like Lange and Evans

this is an interesting approach to capturing the skyscape - part of me wants to see more of the trees in the lower frame - also, if possible, I really feel this shot would benefit if you could wrangle some of those blown out highlight areas, as that's the first place my eyes tending to drift to in your composition, as opposed to the trees which, visually at least, I found more compelling - good shooting nonetheless

an excellent capture of a rather desolate urban landscape - I really enjoy the variety of colors here, such rich reds and blues that play against that gunmetal sky and earthtones in the brick building

fantastic use of complementary colors, not to mention your deft attention to light and shadow

that's such a stark, almost mesmerizing pattern here and the contrast against the black makes it even more compelling - nice capture

great shot - I especially am fond of that motion blur action of swinging the hammer - fantastic composition and tonal range

you've made great use of DOF here, and the color contrast really makes this photo pop - nice work

great shot - that slight blur really gives the shot a sense of vivacity, like some lingering presence of the makeup wearing woman remained behind, waiting to be photographed

I really enjoy the amount of detail you've captured in those intricate, radiating ripples of water on the surface - my only suggestion would be a tiny crop off the bottom, just enough to do away with that brown line - nice work

an interesting concept well executed - the vibrancy of those yellows really plays well with the dark reflected space
