A beautiful tender tale. The grain adds to the softness of this story. It is nicely composed and exposed. I wish I could see nore of the dad's hand, I feel there is as much of a story of relationship in the big male hand as there is in the stubbled kiss and the downy hair. This image makes the viewer feel warm inside. Cathy

Great moment captured here of mother & baby. The decision to go b&w really makes for a beautiful portrait. The light tone adds a nice touch, good job Judy.

I have not seen an image as good as this for a long time, i think an award is just a little admiration for such lovely post while it do worth more than just an award.

I really enjoyed viewing this image.

Wishing you all of the best my friend

A really beautiful shot. The lighting, and the choice of B&W, give this the kind of 'vintage' effect that will last over time...

What a waste of a good beach! All huddled together with all that sand waiting to get between their toes. What I'm trying to say is the people could have been more spread out. I might try to salvage it by cropping tight right and tight left to make a vertical shot. The little guy in front is precious! A vertical would emphasize him more.

Great image!! Love the relationship story. If it were mine I'd be tempted to try cropping it square. Not sure why but it seems quite pixellated on my screen. Could just be the download.

I think Hugo hit all the main points. I too have to say that I absolutely love the way you put the baby in the front away from the others.

Superb family portrait. The fact that you chose a selected DOF makes it different from most others. Good conversion to black and white as well.

Hi Judi, for the larger part, I have to agree to the comments already given. The idea of placing the little girl sin front, separated from the bigger group is great. Definitely something to remember. I think it really makes this image tick.

Yet, I believe this image would really rock if the image quality would've been slightly more balanced in it's sharpness, it's tonal range and in it's exposure.

If I look at the photo closely, it looks like you applied a bit too much unsharpen mask, and the sky has some blown out spots, in combination with a lack of details in the woman's black hair, suggesting a too high contrast. A bit more subtlety in the post processing and this would be just perfect.

Cheers,

Hugo

Wonderful idea for a group portrait composition.

I like how sharp the little girl is but would prefer if you had used a different angle from which to take the shot so that she would not be directly in front of her family. The background also does not look straight and makes the composition uncomfortable to view.

Best regards, Andree

I agree, it should be straightened. I love the little one front and center with the rest of the crown out of focus and looking on...neat composition. Beautiful tones and the expression on the baby is great.
