Rachelle, This is a great photograph! The composition works well and you have managed to convey the feeling isolation and the bitter cold of winter. Cheers from New Zealand.

Comment requested so here goes..... I too would probably like this shot if I took it, however from an outsiders point of view it lacks 'something'. It's 'simple' but not 'stunning'. The snow over the field is in the state where it's not quite enough so doesn't give the lovely blanket feel that would normally come from a fresh foot or so. Finally I think the road is not required and somewhat distracting. Try cropping that out and maybe reducing the shot to a wide angle landscape scene - I think that would improve it.

Rachelle - calm down, its beautiful :-) I don't think it is too simple at all and if it is then maybe that is the point. Simple is nice sometimes. Simple and beautiful is what this photo is and if this is the original then it is even nicer. I love the position of the barn and the tree in the frame, the coloring, everything. I think the sky looks very cool too. I love the way the snow travels along the side of the road. I didn't see the digital version, but I have to say -- I really like this version.

nice reflect and moment... but it's a bit common. The branchs on the left perturb a bit... and it lacks maybe a bit of sharpness...

The blurriness I contribute to a combination of overcompression and some camera shake on the original image. To make matters increasingly difficult, most of my baseball shots are taken through a fence so the crops aren't always what I would like, nor do I have a great deal of choice in regard to angles and a tripod is out of the question. Until fairly recently, I've been using a small megapixel digital, so after cropping, the image suffers. Thanks for your post; I think I'll go back to the original and work on it more.

Rachelle: you can edit the photos' information, just in case you don't know. It is under the photo when you go in to your photo under your login name. I finally figured that out. But anyhow...about the photo. It seems a little blurred to me -- is that the scan, maybe? Still, it is a good action shot. Do you do this a lot? I think that another angle might have been better, but I have not taken a lot of sports shots, myself so I could be wrong. I would recommend looking at Ed Boardman's stuff on here. He takes awesome sports shots from what I have seen. I can't remember if I saw any baseball shots, but other sports are on there....

Taken at the right moment. I think he was out. The tag looks too high on the body. The legs have already touched the plate. Keep shooting!

Yes, it was shot at sunset... Though I admit to a certain amount of tomfoolery with the image editor. Original image had far more gray in the area "ahead"... Any thoughts as to whether I went overboard with the purplish tones?

Welcome. What a great photo! As you stated, the pure joy of the event has been well portrayed in this shot. You couldn't have gotten a better expression if you tried. Oh, to be young again rushing down a hill in a sled without a care in the world. I love the placement in the frame and even though the snow is burned out it acts as a frame to the important part of the shot. Love the ruddy cheeks, the bright red hat and blue sled. Perfect, in my book!
