You're grand daughter is very beautiful. I don't think this picture does her justice. I like this kind of effect and have used it several times myself. I think the background should be entirely black to get more impact. Just my humble opinion of course, this is your personal style. Best wishes Ricky.

There's nothing more that can be said. This is an original shot, well done. There is just one element that I can't decide whether it's wrong or right, the diagonal stem across the bottom left of the frame. Would the image have been more symetrical without it, it appears that this is where all your DOF has been focused and my eye keeps being drawn to it. I'm not sure........
Thanks for your comment by the way John, it's good to get constructive ideas from good photographers. Regards Ricky.

Photo taken from the roof of the building opposite. I missed all the real action unfortunately which took place during the night, 40 fire engines attended.

Hi Renee
This is a nice shot. Good composition and the depth of field is good which blurs the background. My only criticism is that the tulip looks like its floating in mid air. Try using a tripod, slower shutter speed and experiment with a larger aperture to bring the stem in to focus but still leaving the background blurred. Sorry if that's harsh, not meant to be, just trying to be helpful.
Thanks for your comments by the way. I've been looking for a fire after seeing your shots, finally found one today.
Best wishes Rick

Hi Sue.
Thanks for taking the time to look at my portrait "Nicola Reflected"
You appear to have really studied the picture, almost as much as I did when I constructed it. You may not believe it but the whole image took about an hour to do!! I laid out panels of overlapping coloured mirror card and took the portraits in different positions upside down. I liked the pictures on there own but they made more crazy sense together and orientated sideways rather then from front on as you would normally view a person. I did intentially want one looking at all the others, but not originally when shooting, only afterwards when I began to join them together.
Can I say that I love this shadow of the lighthouse stairs, you have really created the illusion that they go up forever, simple, they diminish to a shaft of light. Excellent.
You amused me with the first rule of photography. :-)
I'll keep an out for more of your work. Best wishes Rick

I was in Honfleur a week after you Roland. I had the good weather in Le Mans, unfortunately it was a flat grey afternoon for me in Honfleur and only a 1 hour visit. A nice place, I'll go back one day for a longer look.
I like your photographs. "The Storm In Le Havre" excellent. You have a good eye for colour.
Do you think this close up works better?
Thanks for the comment. Best wishes Ricky.

Thanks for your kind comments.
Like you Renee I do struggle sometimes to get the balance of light and dark correct in brilliant sunshine. I think I went for the best possible compromise which is all you can do sometimes. I did use a small amount of fill in flash to add some detail to the dark areas of her face. As for the family! No one has seen these pictures yet, the bride and groom went on their honeymoon today!!

Nice idea Paulo. I have tried something similar myself, I'm doing a project at the moment called "photographers seen". You may have created more impact by lighting your photographer from the left with subtle sidelighting to catch some highlights. Interesting shot though. Regards Rick
