Photographer: Don Truett (Karma=3)
Ramona, California
About: I have had a passion for photography for many years. Previous careers include professional golf, restaurant and hotel management, and 23 years teaching elementary school. I retired this year and have been able to pursue photography full time. My wife, Denise Truett (a retired Ramona teacher), and I have traveled extensively in the U.S. and abroad and many of the photos in my portfolio are from these trips. I love visiting different locales and capturing the essence of a different place with my cameras. I have begun exhibiting and selling my prints, both in person and on the Internet. I do my own printing on a top-of-the-line printer with archival inks and premium papers. I also do all of my own matting and framing. I have displayed my work in galleries in the county and have won several awards, including multiple first place awards. I have a range of subject matter that interests me: landscapes, nature, abstracts, and a different look at everyday objects. If I had to sum up my outlook on photography, the words of Bruce Barnbaum would serve well: “A meaningful photograph–a successful photograph– does one of several things. It allows, or forces, the viewer to see something that he has looked at many times without really seeing; it shows him something he has never previously encountered; or, it raises questions–perhaps ambiguous or unanswerable–that create mysteries, doubts, or uncertainties. In other words, it expands our vision and our thoughts. It extends our horizons. It evokes awe, wonder, amusement, compassion, horror, or any of a thousand responses. It sheds new light on our world, raises questions about our world, or creates its own world.”
