About: I travel to see and to experience. My images are an attempt to capture and share what I have seen and experienced. Photography gives me the opportunity to become an active participant with people, environments and cultures and to intensify the interaction and connection. I focus on the juxtapositions and sometimes startling contrasts both within the photograph and across the images ? the cleaner dwarfed by the depth of the Siq in Petra; a young girl bounding across the plaza with a lifeless drunk sleeping of the previous night?s excesses; deeply wrinkled skin, aged from the sun and a life fully lived, and the innocence and energy of youth; the Hadzabe hunter-gathers with baboon skin hats living in monochromatic earth tones and the brightly colored and formally attired Bhutanese. To me, the faces of the world show the essential commonality of people. Absent the visual cues of costume, ethnicity and geography, we are all interchangeable human beings. This understanding is integral to my efforts bringing business leaders on opposite sides of geopolitical and religious conflicts together.
Photography helps me develop aesthetic appreciation and attempt to better connect with my very talented artist wife. Through this work, I am seeking to enter the creative world ? scale, perspective, composition, color and tone ? and experience a heretofore foreign visual language. It is a growth journey from the rational world of the intellect, analysis and words to think, see and interact in another medium. I feel like a whole new dimension has opened up to me.
My family and I were fortunate to take a life-changing one year trip around-the-world. My hope is that these images begin to convey the true diversity and common humanity of this world, and may stimulate others to travel and experience that in person.
