The first total lunar eclipse of 2014 will occur in the overnight hours tonight, Monday and Tuesday (April 14 and 15), peaking at about 3 a.m. EDT (0600 GMT) on Tuesday. If weather permits, this could will be one of the most stunning lunar sights. The Earth's shadow will crawl across the moon in the early morning hours on Tuesday, turning it red or copper color due to refraction of sunlight by the Earth's atmosphere.
As long as the sky is clear and your view of the moon isn't blocked, you will be able to watch the eclipse and take photos without any additional equipment.
