Many thanks, Carsten, for your well considered comments. I agree with you that this shot would have been a good candidate for RAW, or more especially, for composite. I have examined your own excellent composites with great interest and would like to try these techniques. Your descriptions of your process are very informative, but so far I'm not sure I am capable of this process. But I must begin to try! Thank you for taking the time and effort to comment!
Best regards, Mark

An intriguing shot, the muted tones and colors of the reflected snow-covered trees against the bold elements on the water. I tried a crop of the shore line, but this is better. My only wish could be a bit more detail in the blown-out snow, perhaps a case for RAW/ composite work

Mark, I can see that you are an artist. There is plenty of evidence :) It's not a compliment, it's a statement of facts. I still have to develop a taste for B & W, as color is still seductive, but desaturated colors are beginning to appeal to me. I'm experimenting with a magenta toned sepia, it's an interesting shade, like a red wine color.

Thank so much Ina. With this series of shots I was hard pressed to decide on color or B&W. I like the subtlety of the colors in these but I like the drama of the B&W. In the end I produced both and decided which in a side-by-side comparison. Even after choosing I'm never sure, as B&W is still an understanding and eye I'm developing.
Your remarks about the painterly aspect are on target. I have been an artist and art lover before being a photographer and I tend to see my camera work in that light. So it is a fine compliment you pay me as the painterly sort of quality is something I often try for. So thanks you!

Very beautiful organic shapes of tree limbs in the water. The reflection of the pines covered in snow adds a painterly effect to the image, suggesting a charcoal drawing. In fact the entire image seems like a conte crayon and charcoal drawing. I like the subdued colors - brown, black, white and greys, with minimal hints of red. Perfect cropping, as usual, and great mood! Best regards, Ina

Hi Mireille. Thanks for your kind words. The snow here will be gone in a few days as it warms up, but there will be plenty more soon I'm sure!
