About Last year I took these two Buddhas, and this year I used a much wider angle lens to show more of their setting. I'm not sure this works very well (I will add a cropped version closer to last year's field of view for comparison). The Buddha with the red bib is a Jizo who has special care of the souls of children, which explains why toys, windmills, are lined up in front of him. The lighting was very contrasty this year, which also made things difficult.

Hi, Rob. 400 ISO is my three-seasons film. 800 is what I usually keep for the winter. But sometimes I run out of 400 so 800 gets used when perhaps it shouldn't be. I used to think it would be fine for macros--helping with greater DOF and higher shutter speeds--but the grain becomes a problem. especially if I have to use any sharpening...

The cropped version seems a stronger composition in terms of emphasizing the statues. The swath of color leads the eye to the smaller statue and then quite naturally to the larger without the visual distraction of the (admittedly very attractive) extraneous sky and foliage. Whichever result, you've made the best of a tough situation by showing us those great colors. Nice work . . .
Regards,
--George

I've always preferred margarine to buddha, Roger! )
A pleasant shot. Both crops are equally deserving in my book.
Best regards, Chris

Yes, John. I must say I prefer last year's too, although partly because image quality with the Fuji lens is so obviously superior... This was the reason for my rather hesitant "about." Thanks for confirming my suspicions. Even the cropped version doesn't quite hack it, to my mind.

Sorry Roger, I like last years better. The tighter croppin tells the story better. That and the bright sky in the new one draws the eye out of the picture.

It is a nice wide angle shot. Very busy bit well identfiable. Nice the superia 400. Are you back on 400 now you used to apply 800 a lot.
