About My first posting of this photo was developed by someone else and it was pretty dark so I decided to try to develop it myself in my dark room class. I think that you can see her a little bit better in this one. What do you think?

What more needs to be said? A fun shot, lovely piece of life. The graininess makes it. I have way more trouble with B&W than colour for some reason. Your tonal range is quite good. Keep up the excellent work.

Thanks for your comment Theodore. I like the grainy look of the 400 film as well. I think that it gives a vintage look to the photo. Thanks for looking at my stuff!

Coolness... : ) No matter what anyone may say... in the end it?s not about what technique or iso you use... it all about what it is you take the photo of... you could probably find things.. like iso 100 or different aparture for less grain... but this is the moment, you where there with your 400... and just look at the photo... couldn?t be more complete IMHO

Great shot, pity about the noise. Cool moment though, especially the bird in mid air off centre.

I think it is better. The grain looks nice aswell.
I like the two worlds, one in front, of the pigeon and the other pigeons and the other of the relation ogf the girls to the bilds.
Good moment. Black and white makes it timeless and universal.
`
Sincerely,
Theodore Stamoulis

I will definitely look for some Dean Collins stuff. Thanks for telling me about him.

Sheila,

Yes, IMHO is what you figured out...

Ok, I got it. Also I must say, listen to the teacher before you follow my half act instruction, because I really don't know anything about the true "Art of Photography".

I'm just a Man, and you know us, we always do it our way until we can't figure it out, then we always have to go back and read the manual... LMAO

If you really want to do it the right way, Please study "Dean Collins"... He was the "Master of Light"... He died at the early age of 51, but he was the best of the best regarding lighting, IMHO... Dean even taught at the "Brooks Institute" in NY...

My Best to You and Yours,

Marty

Hi Sheila...You can see the enjoyment she is having better in this version, she looks totally relaxed in this shot. I agree both have merit but for different reasons.....Best wishes...Ray

Okay, I think I just figured IMHO out. Is it: In my humble opinion?

Sheila Carson Sheila Carson   {K:5924} 11/12/2005
First off, what's IMHO?

Second, you're right, I didn't develop the film again, I developed the photo! My mistake! :)

On the film, yes I do usually choose a 200 or 100 speed film when I'm shooting, for the most part at least. My dark room teacher wanted us to use the 400 speed film when shooting for the class for a few reasons. If we were all using the same speed film then we would have the same developing times when developing the negatives. Another reason that she had us using that is because the 400 speed film is a little bit easier to shoot for the newer students just so they don't have to worry as much about their lighting. Being the Northwest and all, we have many cloudy days and the type of film that we were using that we could develop ourselves only came in 125 and 400 speed.

Imageopolis Featured Photo Critique Sheila,

I think you are an Artist, but how do you develope film twice?

This is a "Timeless Masterpiece" IMHO... You have done what most of us try to do, our whole lives...

I do love your style regarding the 400 ISO grain look, but do you ever choose anything with less grain?

I did my grainy thing with my self's, but that was 1600 ISO and digital is much more forgiving, than film? When I shoot film you will find that I do not go over 200 ISO with 35mm and 125 ISO in MF... Sup?

Marty

Thanks for your comment Corrie Lynn. I think that I have to agree with you on the different moods of the two photos. I really like the grainy look of the dark one and how it gives the photo a little bit a rough edge to it, but at the same time I like the soft detail that I was able to get on her with the lighter one. Anyway, thanks for looking. I love your stuff!

Beautiful image. I Like both, but for different reasons. This one IS clearer, brighter...and has a cheeful mood. The other one seems nostalgic though, like a memory. Same image, just different moods.
