Thanks so much for going to all that trouble Darryl! Cloning is a perfect solution. You've inspired me to revisit this one in the digital darkroom. It's been a while and looking at it now, with more experience under my belt, I see a lot of potential for it.

Hi Rina,
I just came across this pic that you posted and enjoyed the challange of removing the orange spots on the tetals. I used Adobe PhotoDeluxe Home Edition 4.0 to clone the spots out. I hope this works for you.

Very much like my images... it's nice to see people taking pictures of the hearts of flowers.
I can tell you...without reading the long sting of responses to your question.. that painting them out is best. I speak from experience!

I too see the small areas of green as eyes, the overlapping petals as folds of skin, the yellow circles as nostrils above the huge dark snout of a really fat pig... :))

Ok, nobody had mentioned it yet, so I will tell you what I think it looks like. I think that the two small areas of green at the top look like eyes. The yellow (center part) looks like a nose. And the way the two petals on the right and left are formed it makes the whole thing look kinda like a blowfish. Of course he does have a mustache and beard. ;)(or a kentucky type tie)

Oh, no! We've gotten into not only air-brushing models, but also photoshopping the imperfections out of flowers! Will the world ever be good enough for us? And more importantly, will the traditional poetic comparison of a belle to a flower lose all meaning? Ahh!
;-) Sorry, couldn't resist.
Anyway, I think the macro is terrific. I think this image would also look great in black and white - it would make the image more dramatic and diminish the effect of the freckles.

I really like your macro of this orchid. It has perfect light and attitude. I'm wondering if those orange spots that bother you are on the petals or IN the petals. Sometimes scale insects (they love this variety of orchid) look like this if they are on the surface of the flower petal. If it is internal there is another problem.

we all deserve to smile, this photo sure makes me smile, in admiration and amuzement by how real it is a show girl, with stage backlighting and all.
i thank Ernie for this example for a true use or need for channels in photoshop.
i go with Janet that the orange spots are are ok, but the photo is better without them though.
and never hesitate to post something, since we are all here to share and learn from others, and this is what i like most about UseFilm.

Rina Congrats on being on front page, I love this shot too, some of the shapes and shades really attract the eye. I can see a face in there too. I think the spots are okay, but see Ernie has given you some tips on how to get rid of them. Maybe cloning could get rid of them as well. I really liked the way it fanned outwards, so hope you don't mind I couldn't resist trying to emphasise that - See what you think. Well, Rina....Ernie did a great job in removing those yellow spots! I'd give one of my kids to have that kind of talent!
BUT, I see nothing bad about your beautiful Show Girl having a little sparkle of orange ~gives her some extra character and spunk!!

There certainly is a show girl in that flower, Rina! Although, to me she looks more like a bell of the ball (showgirls don't wear that many clothes :))

Oh, I forgot the last step.
After you paste the selection into the blue channel, turn on the "view" of all the channels again, however leaving the blue channel highlighted, so that changes you make will only effect this channel. You will notice that the hue of the image is different for the area you pasted vs the area you did not effect (the part with thy yellow in the center of the flower that you did not select). Then go to image-adjust-levels, and select the blue channel. Adjust the center slider till the hue of the flower matches perfectly. Done. :)

I then selected the red channel which had no spots at all and copied the selection. I then went back to the blue channel and pasted it in. This is the result. What do you think?
