About Some of the whirls in the water were probably pixals in the previous posting, but I think these are genuine whirls..

Photograph of tree roots and stream taken after flooding in the grounds of Wat Tam Tubtao.

I like the simplicity in this shot and the light spot and the green trees.

I agree with you Len. Maybe the trees better presented. You cropped to keep the image smaller? All I can think of is that it was something about the compression when the photo was originally taken (shot in "normal" or "basic" rather than fine or tiff). I've seen it sometimes in my pentax, in some sky shots. It's a funny thing, as if there weren't enough colours to express what was going on. I vaguely remember being miffed about it happening in a photo shot in raw though that's just my vague memory.
Sanjeev Jain is shooting beautifully with a much more restricted camera and turned this effect into a strength.
The nikon's a fine thing. Maybe it's just some weird glitch or idyosynchratic response to shooting into shade that wouldn't be repeated again if you tried, I've never noticed it before in any of your shots by the way.
If you really wanted to do a restore (but why not just enjoy the moment) maybe I'd blurr that portion to try to create some in between tones and then paste it on the top, erasing the paste in gently to bring the details out.

Thanks for that, Ina. Nice to know you had a go at doing something different with it, anyway!

Will be in touch.

Hi Len, you certainly got the pixellation out from the water area. I tried to do some PS on your picture to pop the colors a little bit, but didn't like it (I'm not posting it), so I think you did the best, keeping it dark and moody.

The previous posting is at

http://www.usefilm.com/image/964149.html

if anyone wants to compare the two.

(Maybe it's my small screen but despite the difference in compression the picture doesn't seem much different from the previous posting.)
