Thanks for your comments Lindsey. I agree with you on the scanning. That's one of the downfalls with not going digital. All of my photos loose something when I scan them. In the original shot of the "Pals", the dog looks just fine, but every time I tried scanning it, he came out too dark.
I also had the same problem with the bright photo on the right here. The original is bright, but it isn't as bright as the scanned version. Even adjusting the brightness and contrast didn't fully fix it. I think that I just have to really be right on with my lighting and exposer for the scan to look just right. That's something that I will just have to keep working at and improve on!
Thank for your comments!

Thanks for the nice comment Paul. I think that the grain in the photo is from the 400 speed film. The photos all seem to be pretty grainy with that film, especially when I crop and enlarge them. Fortunately, I think it works well with most of the black and white stuff.
I agree with you on the overexposer too. I tried darkening it a little, but I didn't think it worked well, especially with the collage so I just left it a little bright. I'm taking a dark room class so I'm going to see if I can correct it myself.
Thanks for the comments!

great photos... I am guessing you added the grain to the images which does add to the overall composition. Even though the right photo seems a bit overexposed in some areas, I think the lighting and tones really work well...

Lovely images! Sweet grain here! I personally love HP5. Your composition is perfect! I love the contrast of her expressions in the two images. I love the way her hair is tossled with her beautiful curls. Her face seems a tad bit overexposed in the 2nd image but likely there is detail in the neg as often neg scans and print scans in such sensitive areas can be overexaggerated.
