About It's too bad my wife grows such boring flowers :-) She plucked this one from a plant I had not seen (she had hidden it down on a lower layer which is mostly done for the season), and stuck in in a with an arrangement on our kitchen table. When I walked in the room - Pow! What an amazing flower. We had company for dinner so it did not seem prudent to get out the big camera. I shot this with my little Sony U20 (still the best flower shooter I have, the EOS20D not withstanding) in available room light with the camera braced on a coffee mug. If you look really carefully, you can see the reflection of the camera (and me) in the vase. I was amazed at how well it turned out. Usually I can't achieve this kind of crispness in available light without a tripod.

The exposure information is correct! f/2.8 at 1/30

I like the flower verry verry much. It is beutiful and the vase as well, but the next focus point of my eyes went not on the other flowers, but the window. In my point of view, I would like more if the window part would be smaller.
I am a newbie to photographing, so dont take it seriously (i have my first camera for 6 days now).

A terrific, beautiful photo. The vibrancy of the colors of the dahlia really stand out. (I want you to know that I'm not biased, just because dahlias are one of my favorite flowers.) Another thing I like is that the surroundings are interesting without being intrusive. Well done.

I love dalia's and I grew them in my garden this summer. This one is a beauty. The colors remind me a glourious sunny day. Good capture.

Hi Jim,
I love the title on this shot! It is a nice little fun thing to say about the competition between gardeners or photographers here at Usefilm.
Those little compacts are amazing!

Hi Jim, Fantastic dahlia shot, not just the flower, but the whole arrangement, with the vase. The vase is perfectly suited in color and in shape, the colors of the dahlia are superb, and I like the dots of light on the vase, as well as the other ceramics. Well done! Ina
