You're right, Matej! I have this in mind. First I must solve a problem with my viewfinder, which survived just 5min of use! Back to the Ukraine it goes...

Even NEW (very nicely made) Arsat 30mm lenses only cost a little over US$200. Terrific bargain! I already love mine. I think it will become a favourite, like my 16mm Zenitar in M42 mount. The square format seems to suit it ideally. Easier to balance, somehow.

I have a hunch that this might be a fun place to shoot with your new Kiev + 30mm lens.
I envy you a little bit, I've been looking around for a second-hand wide-angle/fisheye for my Kiev but no success so far.

Len, I'll confess this shot gave me a lot of trouble AFTER I took it... the very wide-angle lens has a bit of barrel distortion, I pointed the camera slightly up (to get the top in) and I also tilted it a bit to one side. It was VERY hard to get it even this straight... It still isn't perfect, but you don't get long standing on a level crossing on a busy line like our local one! I may have another go, though...

Dear Roger, I read the comments written by Ken and I can say thet LIFE IS NOT THE SAME EVERYWHERE! I, for one, can connect and understand better your photos than people who do not live in Japan, a country so much different in many ways from Europe, Americas, Africa and Australia. All these continents have something common with one another, while Asia is very much on its own.
Therefore I LIKE ALL your Japanalia because I am familiar with the images you show. And this one here is a good shot, even though it is not a masterpiece. This one and all the others under Japanalia would make a wonderful photographic show about WHAT Japan really is.
You have my appreciation and admiration.
Gabriela

Not a pretty sight, but a well taken photo, Roger.
Best regards, Chris

Roger,

The power lines and tracks - perhaps, the life is the same where ever you live.

Regarding my recent visit to your portifolio and comments - well, I always do that. I like visiting different members and go through their portifolios.

I consider usefilm as a friendly community rather than just a show case for your photos. There is more to the images - apart from whether it looks good or not, like why it was taken, the thoughts and the story behind. For exapmple, one of your shots titled "Why can't dogs play tennis?" - rather amusing and yet thought provoking.

And again, its a nice way to find new friends. I have traveled far and wide to meet Usefilm members. I met Teunis, Hugo, Chris Spraklen, on individual visits and during UK usefilm meet I met few others as well.

I enjoyed visting Japan, albeit vicariously ! May be someday for real.

regards,
ken.
