I agree that the dof gives this image strength. Good choice converting to b&w, as there is a well balance range of tones and it also gives it a sombre mood.

Yes, this is a good shot. The DOF really gives this image its power. But in the opinion of one who has been there, the look is one of wariness, not remembrance. Being wary of our surroundings is what kept us alive.
