Thanks, Paul. No I didn't use flash. All hot spots are natural! There's a bug festival going on at a local park, and I might drift along there on Saturday to see if they have any butterflies. (Me and about 100,000 other photographers, probably!)

Congrats on your first butterfly.. did you use a flash? seems that there is some bright spots as if a flash was used and the butterfly is a bit bright... too bad he did not open up his wings for you... look forward to more of these images in the future...

You're right, Mary, about the butterfly being overexposed. I think my meter must have been weighted too much towards the shadows... (unfortunately I can't guess exposures right for macros as I usually do for most other shots). I did try to "burn" in what details there were, but I'm afraid this is the best I could do. Even film blows highlights! Thanks for suggesting what that funny thing was...

I think that might be the blossom end of the berry and the done blossom has not yet fallen of. Cute butterfly, Roger. Could I suggest that he looks a little bright and perhaps less exposed would show his details better? Mary
