Hey, thanks Mark!

Whether it's because I have a varied interest in photo subjects or just because I'm still trying to "find my style", that's a nice thing to hear!

I love how photography has NO BOUNDS.

Like your work. Quite possibly the most varied selection of projects on here.
All the best
Mark

Best way to get a press pass is to be shootinng for a magazine. ;) This particular shot was from our Hotel, just across the street, and 9 floors up (and even then, I was just BARELY looking down on him.

Here's one idea: Bring along an iPOD or PDA with some of your best shots, and take 'em to the event offices. See if you can smile and shine your way in the door.

Hi Paul,
Great shot, I love the shadow! I live in Lake Tahoe and have been getting into shooting more sports-so far, snowboarding and skiing. I am a huge fan of the X Games and those types of competitions and would like to get access to start shooting them. Do you have any suggestions about how to get a press pass?
Thanks, Nicole Miller

Great shadow, it appears you have caught him in the perfect pose. I like the squashed look of the skater compared to the elongated shadow. I also like the gray streaks that add to the sense of falling. Really nice~

Really stunning action shot - the guy is perfectly frozen mid air - and that shadow is just fabulous!
I would be tempted to straighten it - so that the white line runs parallel to the top. Reading through the comments, that would also get rid of the red bit.

Brilliant! The shadow (especially since it is some different looking than the skater)is key. Fantastic work capturing this fleeting moment.
Sal
P.S. Yes he made it, heck, you did! lol

This gives me the sensation that I'm the one that is falling! His shadow is terrific, and the inclusion of the curve at the bottom and lines at the top really rounds out the composition nicely. Antonia

hi
thanks for commenting on my pictures
i love the xgames and surfing and skating are my favorite sports so this is a great picture because this is realy high and i cant tell who the rider is but what i like is that you can see what hes doing in the shadow
and i would probably have painted som black over the red thing on top but i dont agree with that person who said that you should take off the black part on the bottom its what shows that its a vert for people who dont know much about skating and alos it shows how big this one is

Now that I look at it again, you're right about the red, Carlos. Thanks.

Abstracts, Journalism, Sports ? My rational judgment gone Paul ? I wondered for a moment, what the heck is this? In my defense it is late in the day but I get it now - the scale of it confused me initially - also misplaced my glasses somewhere. But now I see it very well indeed and the shot rocks ? the skaters shadow absolutely wonderful.
I guess I would be tempted to remove the blue bar on top as well as the hint of red.
Anyway, quite dramatic and entertaining image as is!

Regards

C

Yes, the sheer scale and height is what prompted me to leave in the dark area lower right, Mark.

Yeah, that's a building-sized half-pipe, and these guys were launching themselves off a 5-story ramp!

For those that wondered, here is the landing

Man O Man that looks HIGH !!! It's like a 3 story building or something. You really got a good capture here and the shadow really adds to the shot, looks like the kids gonna need medical attention VERY soon. Really nice work Paul, Mark

Wow, great one Paul. Maybe I'd crop it to remove the bottom right dark part and maybe upper part above the skater. Anyway, this is an excellent photo. Very good work and splendid idea.
Cheers,
Amer

Well, since he's holding his skateboard in his his hand, no he did NOT make it. He slid to a safe landing, though. Thanks for your comments, Lori.
