About

Dad is 77.
He has a lung disease.
He is pissed ... and so am I.

He's the strongest man I've ever known.
Big muscles, big huge heart,
full of mischief.

In many ways, the "classic" dad.
Workaholic....good husband....
Kicked my ass when I needed it....
Wrapped his arm around my shoulders,
when I needed it.

Soooooo much good advice.
I should'a taken more of it.

But this, I promise you, Dad...
I don't waste opportunities today.
I learn every time we're together.....
about grace.
and humility.
and kindness.
and generosity.
and sacrifice.

I learn about YOU.

Hi Bradley, Reading your words makes me both sad and scared. I wouldn't have phrased it differently nor couldn't describe that feeling of not being able to do anything about that any better, as I'm in a very similar position. Eventhough those things are as much a part of life as the more joyful events, that doesn't mean it makes it easier dealing with it.

That desparate feeling is depicted very powerfully in the what Gayle refers to as soothing, yet alo rather harshly, with a heavy contrast, a rawness that's rather uncomfortable. Yet in essence, the photo IS soothing and relaxing. The ambiguous feeling of anger and helplessness... I feel with you.

Cheers,

Hugo

HI Bred,
special green and lights!
I think that it wasn't simple to dominate this light. It's an atmosphere like a fable.

Hi Brad,

I can truly see the connection between your word and the image... and it makes me think about my relationship with my father which is VERY weird. anger and understanding are not too far away when it comes to near relatives... love that bold outcome. and thanks for your latest words. they give me some air under my wings...

best wishes my friend,
Thilo

Brad I'm so sorry to hear this, it must be terribly painful to watch someone so dear suffer and to know that your time with him will be shortened...I dread this too, my mother is getting older and I know that one day she too will be gone..It's hard to even think about, so I know this must be a difficult time for you. I wish I could help. The light through the trees is beautiful and so very appropriate for this image Brad. It shows that you have hope and even though you know you have to suffer, that you will go on, and that your father is a strong force in your life and his memories will be cherished and even though one day he will have to go, you will be here and carry the light that he shared with you, and you will share it with others. His beauty and grace will shine in you all the rest of your days. What a beautiful tribute to your father. An absolutely gorgeous image with bittersweet and poignant words...my best to you Brad...:):)Linda

Yes aging and dying are such delicate subjects. I had lost my bio father four years ago, and the way he went was saddening. Too few are the moments we have with family and friends, and this is a great reminder of how we should cherish each and every moment, every bit of advice that comes from the wise, and to celebrate them while they are still living-not to wait until they are gone. As for the image, the streaming of light through the trees is very magical-its color like a pale pink & gold like sparkles of magic dust spread throughout the leaves. A guiding light for those who are lost in the woods-it gives you a warm feeling just looking at it. Lovely image dear Brad~

Oh Bradley, my thoughts and prayers are with you & your father. I lost my father to Pulmonary Fibrosis, three years ago, he had just turned 70, he had a whole lot more living to do, and we all miss him dearly. Enjoy each and every day with him, let the richness of the good times sustain and carry you through the rough times. He sounds like a great man, God Speed... Dottie

Great feeling here - the words - the image - I too have been going thru a few years of feeling the aching pain of aging parents - I so want them to be what they were - that of course can never happen - we have to take what they have given us and build a legacy to them - keep the beautiful images coming that is the legacy -- K

Beautiful and heartfelt words that call to mind my dad who is long deceased but ever present in my heart and soul....this light streaming through the woods is one example of what Ansel Adams called "The ever present benediction of light" and i agree...a gracious gift for your Dad,Brad...nicely composed with the large foreground tree anchoring the comp...the earthy hues provide a nice contrast of color with the vivid greens...good texture,too...congrats for a very soothing image,Brad...regards,gayle
