That will always be true, Marilyn. There is a finite amount of information in the image. If you crop it and blow it up to 800 pixels wide, it will lose sharpness. If you keep it to a smaller size, down to 25% of the original image, it should look better. I guess I'm trying to say that bigger is not always better ;)

Angelo, Thanks, I was cropping using the thirds standard. Seems the more I crop the less clear the image gets too. Marilyn

Marilyn,
I prefer your original composition to Colin's crop (sorry, Colin!), because it is off-center and with the bird looking into the picture. It shows the bird and its environment. The surroundings are not at all distracting and the bird is very well emphasized from it by the contrasts in colour, tone, texture and shape.

I like your egret photo, Mailyn.
Like those in Australia, your birdlife seems so exotic to me, here in Northern England.
I did a little crop to emphasize your bird. Do you like it?
