I really like the way the canal 'leads' you into this picture. I like the use of perspective, but most of all I like the smooth glass like water from the long exposure and the reflections on it. You have a super portfolio - all very interesting stuff.

The result is so special and unique! The sandwich did achieve the antique result successfully Its stunning! First it seemed as if the mini van on the left is distracting them with a focused look it clicked! The van balanced the image into perfect symmetry! Wonderful work my friend! :)

My latest for the fave list. I've never seen any place like this before. The IR layer is just great for the trees and sky, and also for the reflection on the water. It's a beautiful place.

Thilo,
This one came out really nice. Very dreamy look to the colours. I recognized the process right away. As you know, I tried copying the sandwich/layer technique with various degrees of success. This one works great!

Gotcha! Thanks Thilo, I understand now! Never used the colour blending mode before...
I bought the Cokin IR filter for my filter system but it has proved to be worthless. I get really bad flare in the middle of the picture. So that's put a damper on my willingness to try IR :(

Hi Angelo,
unfortunately, UF ate my first, VERY long reply... ;-(
so I do a quick one.
1. The IR layer: Using Hoya R72, I did my daylight long time exposure with tripod. I switched the channels (R=>B, B=>R), then do some levels work. 2. The color layer: Pumped up the colors, used some Gaussian blur filter. 3. The color layer is blended with the IR layer with "color" option. Then I did some minor tweaking on levels again and to remove some annoying long-term exposures.
that's it, basically ;-)
Hope that helped.

Hi Carsten,
maybe you're right with the sky. I lost some patience with this one as I really spent a lot of time on it... especially the colors.
thx for the feedback,
Thilo

Great concept, somehow antique or Technicolor, a bit surreal (especially the sky). I wonder how a bit more blue in the sky would look (not sure if nice or not, but there might be a tad too much grey in the sky) Regards; Carsten

Hi Angelo,
the reflections ARE true ;-)
just a small info on the technique as I have a lot of work ;-)
1. IR Picture: Taken with tripod and Hoya R72 filter. This filter sucks A LOT of light. So I have to expose around 5-10 seconds with aperture 10+ even at bright daylight. The movement in the picture is now visible (tree, leaves, water). any waves or cripples in the water disappear and get flat. 2. Color picture. 3. IR picture is the base layer. Channel switching (R=>B, B=>R), levels. 4. Color picture is the second layer. Blended with "color". I use a Gaussian blur filter for the color layer. 5. I check if the color fits with the objects and remove any "senseless" parts ;-)
That's it.

Thilo, the wide angle combined with the techniques employed gives a feel of endless spring and so transforms what is essentially a familiar and straightforward scene. Clever, and manages to impart a fair impression of the wonderful city. Ian

Welcome back, Thilo! Hope you had a good time.
Excellent work with this one. Love the way even the reflections are true. How did you achieve this? A lot of selection work?
One day I'll understand this technique of yours... :) Perhaps you can do a step-by-step, like the ones that Judi does!
