About Well, I went and did it. I took a deep breath and bought a Canon 20D with a couple of IS lenses . Gee, it feels quite a bit different than my little Sony U20 :-).

This fern (in our garden, of course) is from the first batch of shots I took trying to get a feel for the camera.

I might be showing my age here with that for a title but oh well :-)

Actual exposure from EXIF:
1/60 f/6.3 ISO 400

Hi Jim - you have a beautiful portfolio - but this one is my favorite - it gives you the feeling that the fern is going into the picture and will end in the nowhere - perfect capture, great color.

This was beautifully captured especially with regard to the angle. At first glance on the small index, it looked like a high-tech architecture (or may be a newly designed greenhouse) [or simply my imagination & eyes playing a trick on me ;-) ].
On 2nd look, it's like some kind of christmas tree!
Anyhow, a fern can be so interesting. Not bad at all! :-)

Congrats on your new camera. I keep threatening to upgrade from my little camera. Almost all of my photos are taken on my walks and I do not really want to carry too much equipment as I walk, but would like a better quality lens and camera. Maybe some day. As to your first photo,, the excellent detail shows but also your skill, especially in selecting the angle. Nicely done. Del.

Great composition and good solid colors. I just recently purchased a digital camera (just a simple P&S) and my first photo to get a feel for the camera was a fern too haha.
