Hi Mark, I could spend weeks re-working some of these old "treasures". Most of them are in my Mother's basement. They are also great candidates for colourization. It is amazing how small the photos were back then. Of course a lot of the negatives were huge too. I don't know much about it, but I suppose they were just like contact sheets. Andre

2.5 x 2.5? Sounds like a contact print (?). What a treasure...imagine finding a box of old photographs.

Hi Judi,
Thanks for visiting. I don't know how I managed it, but It seems I skipped adulthood somehow. I went from being a kid to a teen-ager, got married raised two boys, and now I'm back to being a kid again. Life goes by in a flash. Might as well enjoy it!

You are right Fadel. Hang on to the photos you have. They are priceless. I really only have a few older ones like this one. But I am very lucky that they all seem to tell a good story. Andre

Hi Den, This photo is branded in my brain. It is one of my favourites from my early childhood. You can imagine my surprise when the very same bike showed up in the movie "Motorcycle Diaries" If it wasn't exactly the same it certainly was very, very similar. I've looked up the stills from the movie and I swear it's the same type of Norton. The only bike I've ever owned myself was a 250 Bultaco Matador ISDT bike. I had a lot of fun on that around the local trails. My brother also has an old Honda 4 stroke motocross bike up at the cottage that I occasionally go for a ride on. But that's about it. Andre

Hi Andre, what a terrific shot from the archives and a great history to it too. The thing that comes home to me is that at that time a "Learner" could ride a 500cc machine. When I started riding in 1960 we were restricted to 200cc. The other thing I note with great nostalgia is the RAC badge. They were great embellishments. I had on mounted on the front mudguard of my 350cc Triumph 21. See:- http://www.Usefilm.com/image/608440.html Thanks for your recent comment. Den

Thank you for the kind words and for visiting Carlos,
You are absolutely correct about the priceless value of old photographs. That is exactly why a website like this is so important. Another great way to preserve a little bit of our past out in cyber-space!

Glad you pointed me this way Andre - what a sweet shot ? the ?bandolero? with the terrific outfit taming the big Norton ;-) - a precious picture! No wonder photos are the choice valuables people protect under duress: fires, floods, an so on. Over time and without the image the moment would be but a fading memory! But fortunately here is tangible evidence that the thing really happened! Not only a dream? A very cool pic ;-)? thanks for the view.

Thanks Grant,
For a little added history on this bike. When my dad bought this bike, (used) he had never riden a motorcycle in his life and couldn't speak a lot of English. He paid for it and rode it home across town in first gear because he couldn't understand the owner's instructions. The next week, he rode it from London to the top of Scotland to work in the Orkney Islands. I must have heard that story a hundred times :)

Love the bike, love the history of it, too. Brings back memories for me of sitting on one big bike or another and imagining myself toolin' down the road...

Hi Thilo, Compared to the amount of images we all take now, I think most people just have a few family snaps, and that's about all. Just a few faded pictures in a shoe box is all most of us have from the early fifties. That's why it is so nice to bring them back to life again like this. Andre
