About possibly the boer. Not honestly sure of the date. What would clinch it is if my grandmother holding the basket is pregnant or was that just an unfortunate garment.
Hokitika. The Breezes.
Today is ANZAC day.

Len, you know those little hand held slide viewers? I have a friend who is thrilled with the results of photographing them through that with his digicam.

Always a real treasure, these...Will digital last as long or will some remastering be absolutely essential not so very far in the future?

Best wishes, Ian -

Len

(By the way, if anyone knows a good, quick, inexpensive way to digitalize slides, let me know...)

Hi Ian,

All those stereotyped native people in the movies were right, photographs do steal a little bit of your soul.

Amazing really, whoever took this had no idea of the exposure it would get around the world!

Hi Ursula. I tried to sepia it I think but It's a subtle job if it is. New to scanning I did an enormous black and white file and lost the insipid faded but meaningful colour that had been there. Tried sharpening and curves but all it brought was change and not sure clarity was gained so left it. It is what it is (a scan).

Unlikely to be the Boer war, as your grandmother was born in 1900... more likely WWI, I think.. but what are they drinking?
