An old favourite of mine Robin!
The ghostly figure through the broken windshield is my little brother, who is now over 40.

Composition, DOF and lighting are exceptional! Love the lighting of the dashboard at the bottom right of the photo. Very moody!

Hi Kes,
Yes, a lot of the die hard purists out there hate the idea of digital manipulation. But I find that scanning negatives and playing around in Photoshop can come up with some very satisfying results. I get a big kick out of being able to bring a lot of my old stuff out of the moth balls and into a new life.

That's a good idea, Andre. I don't know if it's been suggested before.

I've been using a family member's new scanner on some negatives I've had stored. Some of them turn out pretty darn well, compared to my old scanner. Good old film.

Hi Kes,
Yes I have considered re-posting some of my personal favourites. A lot of my images go way back to the late 60's early 70's. I have only just in the last couple of years started scanning the negatives and prints of some of my work.
I honestly feel that a lot of my best work was done back then. When I first joined Usefilm, I posted a lot of my older images. Now they are buried at the back of my portfolio.:(

What I would really like to see happen is for Usefilm to allow us to have our own choice of personal favourites for the first 10 images on our Profile Page. That would allow a visitor to read a little bio plus get a pretty good idea of what kind of images we consider to be our best creations. The way it is now, our images only show in chronological order. But, not necessarily our best or most interesting work.

I wonder if this has ever been suggested to the staff of Usefilm? My bet is that it has.

What do you think?

Hi Andre -

Casper!!!

You know, the spooky thing is that I've got a similar title in mind for an image. I don't know the image yet, but I know the title, for another shot in my "religious/whatever" series. I just made that name up - but I do have several shots with a religious "tone"...

Of course, with the addition of "broken", this could be anti-religion.

And for those that don't follow this sort of thing;
1Cr 13:12 "For now we see through a glass, darkly;..."

Anyhow, lol, I think the leading diagonal's sharpness lends confidence/familiarity to the rest of the shot, and puts the viewer's imagination at ease. Super tones, Andre. I like old vehicles, I like abstracts, I like this!

All the best,
Kes

p.s. Andre, do you ever consider reposting your older shots? I sometimes wonder if the several thousand photographers online don't see my shots.

;)

Thanks for your nice comment Gayle,

This is one of my personal favourites too. It sat in my negative box for years without me doing anything with it, until just recently. I'm pleased so many people have a fairly strong reaction to it.

Like how you changed the title from the book/exhibition and this is such a compelling image full of vision and mystery...tone and contrast level are what i try to achieve with a few of my past images..the blur factor reminds me of a holgaroid image...to my faves!..regards,gayle (7+)

Thanks Fadel,
Creepy, dark, mysterious, maybe a little sad. Thats the kind of thing I was going for. The old trucks work well when aiming for this mood.

Thanks Mark, It is the same truck as the one in the photo beside it. Also another interior view is in a photo called "30, 40, 50 Mph"

I use a Nikkormat FTn on a regular basis as well - built to last is an understatement. http://www.usefilm.com/image/519807.html

Thanks Thilo,
A lot of my photos posted here are taken in the same general area and time frame. You are right, the same farmer that owned this truck and others posted, also used to live in the abandoned house where the "Photographer's Apprentice" photos were taken.

Thanks thanks for the comment Stephan,

The camera was the first one that I bought with my own money. When I think back, It probably cost me at least two weeks full wages in 1970 for the body and one 50mm lens. My dad thought I was crazy at the time. :) It is still in good condition and my son just completed a couple of courses using it.
