About The days of small square hay bales are long gone and now we have these green plastic wrapped monsters to contend with. This was taken in the Makarora Valley looking towards the Wilkin Valley, New Zealand.

I really like 3-d look in this shot. You used the lines, forms, and colors to produce an outstanding shot here. I find it of interest that the hay bales are wrapped in plastic. Around here, they are left in the field, without cover until they are moved into sheds.

Nice image, John. I like the very strong lines, all seemingly leading to the same spot.

The way the hay bales break up this line pattern really helps them to stand out.

A typical "sunny day" in South Island, eh?

Great sense of direction in this shot, like if everything is sucked up by a big black hole somewhere at the end .. .

The green cover is so SURREAL and make this image both strange and cool!

John, you may be interested to know that the Japanese lady I was looking at this with said, "Oh, where in Japan was that taken?" and was very surprised to hear it was taken in New Zealand. "We do exactly the same thing where I come from," she said. Great image!

Yes, I remember seeing those wrapped hay bales last year. That sky is really fantastic!!
The wide angle and sharpness from front to way back makes this an almost surrealistic image.
Best regards,
Marion

these bales no longer have the quaint appeal that they used to......but from a art perspective they are so out of context from the norm that your image has become fascinating. They look like huge candy chunks.

Great shot. This is NZ - Farm land , mountians , trees and overcast conditions. Nice depth created and great lines in the field.
Nice job

Weird how you've got this image next to Jacques's. Yours looks surreal, almost like you added the bales afterwards.

Thanks Rog, is that a new word you have just invented, comodification, can't find it in my Oxford. Haven't been away, just too busy doing other things. Have been putting together a few digital slide shows set to music.

On my dial-up connection Usefilm can be pig slow. It's frustrating waiting minutes for images to open up to leave a comment. Just waiting for my ISP to offer broadband at a realistic price.

Cheers John

Hi John, An amazing coincidence. I did pass through Makarora myself, the day after taking my shot of the plastic bales.
