About After Shooting this guy out in the open ( see earlier post) I saw him fly to a nearby evergreen where I figured he would settle in for a nap. I grabbed my D70 with the Kit Lens which so many of us have learned to love, and walked back down to the tree. With the shorter lens I was able to hold the camera over my head and forward to get an open shot, Kind of like you see newsphotographers when they just raise the camera over thier heads and snap.
I am really happy with this bunch of shots, mostly because I even had the chance to take them. Oh yes, I was a bit tardy for work. ( Well worth it )

Larry

The kit lens was the 18-70mm ED that came with the camera when I go it. Yes I was close. The shots in the evergreen tree were shot with both cameras. However to get the shot I posted, I raised the camera way over my head and moved to within 3 feet ! And shot like crazy since I couldn't get eye to the viewfinder.
so yes I was close. the shot with blue background was shot with me standing under the bird, once my cleated shoes caught and I almost landed in the lake !! I thought for sure He was gone, I looked up and he was still there watching with one eye .

Your technique worked to perfection Jim. The focus and DOF are spot on. It makes me feel that he's sitting on a window ledge looking in at me. AND HE'S WINKING TOO!

Great shot Jim. If I had a chance to get pictures like this I would be late to work too. Lee is a good person to spend the day with I had a blast and learned a lot in the process. Daryl

Some things are definitely worth being late for work for, Jim, and this certainly qualifies! Marvelous shot!
