Hey Peta. I love your city shots, awesome. I have been looking at them for a while an i think they capture my city perfectly (yes iam from Melbourne too, i paint graffiti around there). You should seriously consider seeling some of those prints. Or even make a series of just nightime city shots. Unreal keep it up (that goes without saying!)

I don't agree with the contrast suggestion. Increasing the contrast will overexpose the whites a lot more and it will not make the black less gray.
Use selective color. Go to black and increase it by 3 or 4 notches. U will see the magic...

Peta, you can achieve much of what you need by some slight editing - higher contrast and slightly lower saturation would do it. It's still a very clear and attractive photo.
