About to achieve the "condensation" look I used a matt dulling spray and then finely sprayed over glycerine and rose water. This is apparently the technique used in the world of advertising to create this effect. The image was lit with a softbox from the left and a silver reflector to throw some light back in from the right. Finally I opened the aperature right up to give an acute low DOF - this adds an element of softness to the edges of the overall image

I saw this in the magazine too, amazing clarity and toning... I would crop a little off the top, but thats just me (I'm no magazine editor). My monitor says that you haven't blown any highlights at all, that pretty rad when you think about all the reflections here... thats nice soft light and a top notch exposure... hassy eh? Lucky. Thanks for sharing. your friend, t

Damn - a whole lot better and more subtle than the tumbnail indicates. Definitely a professional treatment and lighting. Thanks for explaining the water effect, very helpful for those of us less experienced.

Phew Barry - I'm out of breath reading all that let alone doing it! Fair play to you. I would liek to do a lot more myself but I only get to lift a camera every other week. Still i think you should make a stab at it next year, you definatley have the talent.

A 350D - nice prize!

No, I only entered the one round, the one with the kitchen theme. I just don't seem to get round to creating an image for each round. Next year I think I might give it a go but it's difficult fitting it in between work, cycling, running, travelling, astronomy, badminton, kayaking, fell walking and sleeping!

Cheers Barry. This month's prize is a 350D. Not too bad. They say it is worth £800 but I saw it on pixmania.com for 800EUR. Still not bad for a day's work. As for the "trade secrets" well its a case of not being afraid to ask the right questions to the right people! The technique was never demonstrated to me before so there was a lot of trial and error. Studio would be my strong area wheras yours would be landscape. Incidently I expect you to do well in the Autumn round. As for the overall competition itself, its a case of see how I get on. It would be sweet to win more - it would be great exposure if you will forgive the pun. But I think the lead at this stage is a tad unattainable. Did you enter this round yourself?

Nice work, I can see why the APOY judges liked it! Where'd you learn these trade secrets? Top prize will certainly claw back some points from those few still ahead of you in the competition. What's this month's start prize? I saw the last one won an EOS30V, lens and 9950 scanner which ain't bad.

Fantastic 'advertising' shot, depth of field is spot on for the subject - I'd buy a bottle!
