Thanks Carla, especially for getting my work confused with Mangelsen's.

Very nice work, all of it James. Once I opened your portfolio, I had to go downstairs and get my nature book and see if you were the photographer. "Images of Nature, Photographs of Thomas D Mangelsen". Your work is just breath-taking. I mixed the Polars up because once I made a comment on the second image UF populated the first one again, although I had alredady commented. In any event the capture was just beautiful and yet kind of comical. Thank you for sharing.
Carla

one was stalking you and you were not phased? woah you're brave. I love how they all have the same expression.

Tara, the description says they're captive because that's the industry term to indicate that they're not wild, not necessarily that they're in a cage or tied up. I don't know about being brave though. Maybe ignorantly unconcerned would be more accurate. The cats were well behaved, and followed the directions of the handlers that were with us. I had stayed back a bit upstream from this shot, and when I rejoined the group, one of the cats was stalking me! One of the handlers came over to distract the cat, and other photographers were worried about me, but it didn't phase me a bit.

Thanks Tara. You're right that they look like they're in the wilderness and not captive. They were shot in the state park next to the game farm where these animals are kept, and they were free to leave any time they wanted. Fortunately, they were interested in the food (chunks of meat) the trainers kept giving out, and they stayed around for great shots like this.
