About This was shot while on a trekking trip into the eastern Himalayas. We were goin from Sandhakphu to Falut. It was blizzardy and we passed a forest destroyed in wildfire. Among the dead trees grew this little flower. I had this image posted on usefilm before, but at that time I was new and didn't know much about sizes, so it was really small. I'm reposting this so that all of u who see it can find hope and survive in destructive times like this.

Hi Bikram - This reminds me of burned areas I visited many years ago that appeared to be totally beyond repair to be followed the next spring by a burst of new growth including the reappearance of quail and other animal life that had not been seen for years before. Yes, fire can give as well as take away. Thanks for stopping by 'At Saqqara.' I visited Egypt in 2001 but recently got a new plug-in for Photoshop that does a much better job of removing digital noise inherent to the camera. I have not posted much from my sojourn to Egypt because of the problem with my Olympus 3000 and excessive (especially sky) noise. I've also been sidetracked by my professional activities as a statistician/chemist trying to rework some national protocols for analytical work in environmental laboratories. I have posted more of my Egypt trip elsewhere and can send you instructions by email if you are interested. - Mister Ken

Dear Luis, I hope u can share my pain. Andaman Islands is a place where I shot anumber of photographs during my stint there as a research assistant. I have seen people who've struggled for generations to settle there after being thrown there as refugees. They had given decades of toil to build up arable lands, survived malaria and attack from native ethnics and now when everything was peacefully settled it all goes out in a puff. I have seen places there where old stone age native people live in their huts and hunt fish with spears. God knows what happened to them. It is a disaster that really hurt my chords deep down within. Best Wishes. Cheers

Hi Bikram!
What a nice concept in this photo!
(I'm so sad due to the tsunami victims, my friend! I was in Phuket and Maldives in the past, and I think at people who are my friends...).
Have a great 2005 you!

Yes Uri, that would be a different angle. But I wanted to get the flower with the landscape. And I had a fixed focus camera. With that there are no choices left. Cheers
