About This mosque was built by Ahmed Ibn Tulun in 879 (265 H).

Ahmed Ibn Tulun was sent to govern Cairo by the Abbasid Caliph in Baghdad.

The mosque was built over a period of three years of mudbrick. It was the third congregational mosque to be built in what is now greater Cairo.

It is the third largest mosque in the world and it is the oldest mosque in Egypt that has survived in a fairly original form.

What we see in the photo is the fountain, it is located in the middle of the sahn. It has windows on all sides, and over it is a gilt dome on marble columns, and round it there are also marble columns with a marble pavement. Under the dome there is basin of marble...and on the roof there was a sun-dial.

What an image Khaled, very powerful!! the only minor issue is that the foreground is little over bright and I think that's why it gives the feeling that it's a composite, other than that it's a fantastic image!

Very nice shot, Khaled! I like the way you framed it in the archway, and a beautiful sky behind it!

Hi Amna,
I agree with you the colors of the background appears artificial but it's not another photo, it's just the original sky with some adjustment of the colors, contrast and levels but may be it is little bit over.
This is the original photo.
Thanx for your comments dear Amna, regards,
Khaled.
