Not to worry... I had it replaced with a D100, which outclasses the old one. It was a decent camera, but just not durable for what I do with it... Thanks, though!

Hi Stephen... It was a sandstorm; it hit us an hour or so later, and the dust got everywhere, eventually reaching the camera... This was one of the final shots with this camera before it died... Permanently... Thanks for your comment,

Wonderful moody landscape Hugo, I am guessing that there may be a sandstorm in the distance ?
I like the placement of the people on one side to give perspective to the hill - and it does look pretty steep !

that looks like a black storm!!
i prefer the colours as they are .. tweaking them changes the mood plus those tweaked versios has lost the sense of early morning.

Hi Hugo.
In this one, I'm seduced by the dynamic line the people are about to cliimb. It creates a lot of tension, and I think the hues you have maintained in your original version amplify this feeling of the struggle they are about to lead.

Hi Michael, Thanks for your comment and the time you took to work on my image... I agree, the early morning touch is gone, but I like the tones you created. I struggled with that a bit; as the images produced by the FinePix S602z are relatively low quality, and some level tweaking was needed. The image I posted was the closest I could get to how I rememebered this scene; it was about 5.00 hrs am, and whe had just broken up camp. the dark patch in the lower right corner of the sky is a brewing sandstorm, and the sky was already darkened by the dust...
As to the cropped versions (Gasp? Not much a cropping fan? :)) , I think the lower one of the two is the most balanced. Thanks for the suggestion; It is definately an improvement...:)

Hi Arwa, don't be.... The camera was replaced by a much better one, and besides, we had an excellent trip, and the memories are far more important than the photo's. Besides, it wasn't my only camera, so I still have some sandstorm shots...:)

what I like the most about this image is the contrasts between the people and the landscape.. they seem so small when compared to the vastness of the desert. Another contrast is how the colors of their clothes stand out so clearly against the desert earth tones..good capture Hugo

This photo is a mesmerizing blend of the old and the new, an astonishing place where the past exits within the old method of transport and the present modern equipment, this is the genuine Saharan ergs (big dune).Where the panorama view is the best, here the eyes don?t go on as far as we can see ,the Bedair ( small mountain hill mostly covered by sand)is hiding the vision of the vast sand dunes, where you find yourself surrounded by sand right to the horizon and beyond, your image is giving the idea if you are just approaching the desert rather in the middle, placing persons and loaded camels gives the idea that the journey still at the beginning, the comparison is of excellent choice along with placement, the other attractive elements is off course the sand storm even in the morning that is one of the classic desert habitat where the thermal excursion is high ,it is a matter of argument but I love to see those small ?caravan? in the middle of no where deep in the sand dunes, and to my opinion the first image has a stronger impact, seeing that I like the originality on this one. Hi Arwa, Thanks for your comment, Always very good to hear! And you're absolutely right, the standstorm hit us a few hours later. (guess the storm wasn't that heavy, though, we continued as planned...;o)) It gets everywhere! just no way of keeping anything sand-free.... It got the better of my camera too, which was quite unfortunate...

Hi Patrick, thanks for your comment. Interesting phrasing: "really good work i think"... Wonder what you mean by that....;o) I agree that a frame would be nice in this case. I used to use frames, but left that idea, as I wasn't satisfied with any of them. In the next triptych, I'll give it another go. Thanks for reminding me!

Hi Omar, thanks for your comment. A good description on how I experienced this phenonemon. When I took this shot, it was more of a holiday snapshot.... If I only knew it would be one of the last imgages I'd take with that camera... It didn't survive the sandstorm...:(

Nice shot, some pollution coming up from the right. This is something diffrent from all the sand pictures. Not a lot of people know that, but there are lots and lots of rocky parts in the Sahara, it used to be a sea! You can find some stunning fosiles out there. (my father is a historic teacher :)

EXCELLENT composition Hugo, I really like this one. Nicely seen and expertly photographed.
The sky is 'to die for'!! (which means I LOVE IT)

now this is an image that I like! 7/7 
The timing is just right! and the darker spot on the right side of the image doesn't look so good, I mean looks like a sand storm coming over your way, its dark and its sandy!! Its easy to recognize one when u live in Saudi most of your life :P I can almost smell the sand!
The composition is lovely! Excellent placement of the people on the tight right side of the image to show how much they have to walk and how much little time they have!

Hi Tim, so could I. The dark area in the sky is a brewing sand storm. Before we knew it, everything, including my camera was filled with sand. Lots of sand.

There is a really ominous feeling to this image. The people, so small, struggling to climb the shifting sands to shelter before the oncoming sandstorm engulf them. The perennial struggle for survival in the desert; man vs the elements.

like the composition here and these people on the right with the camels; what I really miss is the blue sky with some small clouds high in the atmosphere and some light (shadows) on the rocks and sand; but I understand that that you do not have influance on the weather conditions, do you?
