About Why I like it: The contrast between her bright red shirt and the overcast sky and the sea really caught my eye. The smile shows genuine 'joy' at speeding over the surface of the water. I like the perspective also as it gives the feeling of the openess out on the water.

For Bill Mahler whose portfolio made me dig up one of my boating shots...

good shot Anthony, beautiful smile on a beautiful woman, would like to see more boat and less hand and sky

Hey Bill, thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it. Luckily, I wasn't driving, this was taken on a friends boat-he's a real 'boat-guy' and we were visiting him and his wife.

Yea, when I look at the hand I can't help but think "if only...I had gotten the whole hand in the image". My back was literally against 'the wall' and I was as wide as I could go (28mm). I suppose if I'm going to keep my promise to myself to "be my own worst critic" I should pull this one (and several others...) as it really belongs in the 'just-missed' pile.

Again, I'm glad you stopped by-thanks.

Hi Tony.....Yes , the red adds lots of punch to this Image. Great smile. ... Hmmmm.. dunno if she is having a great time. or.. you have lost control of the boat .. and she's screeming. lolololo.

Matej is correct regarding the hands position .. but.. all the same.. A nice action shot. Thanks for thinking of me. :))

~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Best ....... Bill
Hi Matej!
Thanks for your comments...
You alerted me to a mistake on the info posted on this picture. It was not taken with a 20D but with my 300D. Sorry for the confusion. Your right about taking the new camera on a boat-the 20D stayed in the house while we were out on the water!
I agree with the hand-I was only about 2ft from her when I took this, so I was at the wide end of the lens which caused the imbalance. Also, as you noted the flash is emphasized on the hand as well. We were moving pretty fast and I found it pretty hard to keep the framing and I couldn't back up anymore so...
I wish I had gotten the entire hand in the shot, that would have helped. But honestly, the imbalanced perspective doesn't bother me. In fact I kind of like the way it looks *because* of the imbalance. Wish I could have gone wider actually to further emphasize that falling away feeling and openness.
Hope you are doing well and not *too* busy to shoot.
Anthony
She sure seems to be enjoying herself, nice sense of speed and excitement. Personally I'd be afraid to take a brand new camera out to sea for fear of dropping it into the water :-)
I'm guessing you were at the wide end of the lens, the hand is disproportionately large compared to the body, this is something that draws attention especially in combination with the lighter skin tones of the hand (I assume it's because the hand was much closer to the flash).
