This is one of the best geysers - glad you waited or you got extremely lucky.

Even better - you have the correct explaination for the "candlestick" trees.

it's actually calcium carbonate.
The trees were killed during exceptionally violent eruptions (literally cooked to death in the life steam).
The dead wood soaks up minerals in the steam (mainly calcium carbonate leading to the white colour), slowly becoming completely petrified.

That's what rangers explained at the site :)

the sulfur covered trees almost have a IR quality, wonderful capture, and its even better because the wind was blowing slightly towards those sulfur covered trees
