Thanks for your comment and analysis of my image Michael. New Zealand is a very photogenic place with a great variety of landforms packed into a small space. The North & South Islands both have unique and differing land forms. We have very long coastlines and some spectacular mountain ranges. The people are very friendly and we often have 4 seasons in one day. Regards John

Good showing - works on many levels:
1. Foreground detail, background beauty - I like the interaction of the rock with the mountains.

2. Rule of thirds in effect. You have the rock as a primary weight counterbalanced against the slopes on the upper left. Kudos on the balance of the light grass and dark mountains. I've noticed that a lighter ground against a darker background makes images "pop" and appear more attractive.

3. The slope of the grass in the foreground is perfect: 1/3 on the right side and ends nearly at the corner. This creates and exiting dynaic which is countered by the line of the mountains at the upper corner flowing down to meet 1/3 of the way down the right hand frame.

4. Brightness, contrast just right.

5. Excellent saturation, not to much or too little.

6. That little cloud is neat.

I need to go to New Zealand.

Hi John, Very well composed image. The rock in the foreground adds alot to the composition. It ills the foreground, adding some tension to the barren landscape, and keeps the viewers attention within the photo. Very well captured.

Cheers,

Hugo

Thanks for yor comment Menno. The darkening of the sky in the top right is the effect of using a polariser. Regards John
