this is really excellent, John ! The atmosphere is so soft, so quiet ! great mood !
Do you know that I moved to Italy, I just go back to Paris when I have some holidays. When you'll decide to cross the ocean, just tell me, we'll make long photographical walks, in Paris or in Milan and I'll invite you in my favorite bistros ! The "aperitivo" in Milan is a kind of delicious ceremony !

Great tones, good mood and lighting. I also like the "play" of the forms here.
Somehow the "shooting from behind" remindes me of some of Malick Sidibé's work... but an another atmospher. Good work.
Best regards, Alex

I have flipped back and forth from this to colour...

and have to say that your first choice... being this... is the 'one'!

Only NikPic is that I would somehow want to crop the standing lamp out, while maintaining the square image (including all of the light reflections on the floor)

wonderful shot, john. i prefer this sepia toned version to the colour one, as well. I find my eye settles in on the model here &, therefore, there's more of a sense of mood for me with this piece - a kind of lonliness, perhaps, added to by the starkness & warmth of the toned b&w. I like the strong yet subtle diagonal line you've created with the light patch on the floor, the model, the couch & the lamp - a wonderful dynamic. I'm not sure about all the space on the bottom, though, as it puts her almost right in the middle of the photo (although that may be what you were after) & pulls my eye down out of the piece - so i'd be curious to see it cropped tighter on the bottom. That said, i think it's a beautiful piece, full of stillness & beauty, & richness steeped in simplicity - what you do so very well. Lovely.

Hi John, this portrait is a real still-life, very good exposure with your pinhole-camera:) I like it in sepia and also in color:)

best regards, *Pia*

for some reason my eye likes this finish better... richer.

John, the BW is my fave as well. In that image, I have an easier time focusing just on the girl and the mystery that surrounds her.

I am a bit bothered by the bench she is on. The sides of the bench align directly with her own silhouette, and it places emphasis on her lower half. It competes with the best part of the image...her shoulders and back, which you have lit so perfectly.

Also, the diagonal of light on the bg wall is terrific.

i really like this image.. it is so simple but conveys such a powerful mood. This photo is like artwork...each viewer can come up with different feelings about this image and wonder what is on the mind of the girl.. is she happy.. sad...lonely.. great work

The appearance from behind of the woman comes to feel suffering the moderns.

Good Work John, I prefer this version in B/W rather than color version.
