The low perspective makes the boat look a lot larger than it may be - extremely expressive with an upswoop. monumental.
Agree that the centered composition lends itself to a static image and enforces that the boat is grounded.

Hi Klaas Jan, I think this is one of those rare occasions where a bould, completely centered composition is the optimal solution for the composition. The low camera position as well as the DOF (re)-create the tension and keep it from being static. Excellent moody image, with the fog cueing the distance. The typical Icelandic mood.... Very strong image.

it's easy for everyone who visits this place to take a snapshot of this majestic ship,and i'm sure there are hundreds of them in photoalbums... but let me think that few photographers would compose the 'gardar' so skilfully as Klaas did,and produce such a strong and moody image :-)
